[NOTE: This log is _probably_ dated shortly after my initial creation of the characters of Tamber and Jerrik, which would have been around May of 1994. Looking back on it, I obviously didn't have Tamber al-Acorrin's character concept down yet -- here, Tamber is not the smooth individual developed in later roleplay. But I'm preserving this log as is for posterity anyway. :) - Kevlan's player.] Game Room You enter into a chaotic hodgepodge of sights and sounds. Slowly, the chaos resolves itself into individual pockets of activity. Along one wall are old holovid games interspersed with newer virtual reality games. In the middle of the room are a couple of pool tables with old-fashioned pool hall lights hanging over them. In the corner, a pair of guild members are playing a fast and furious game of air hockey. You see a curious table off to the side. On closer examination you realize it is a stratagema game board. Scattered throughout the room are tables where guild members can sit and talk, or play cards or other board games. One section of a wall is dedicated to darts. You notice that in spite of symbiont-enhanced senses, there are a lot of holes in the wall around the dart board. Obvious exits: Lifts Elissa dodges a mis-thrown dart as her walks in from the lift area. Elissa pokes her head in, then smiles. "Kev! I thought I saw you in here." Kevlan stands leaning over a pool table, cue in hand, but at the sound of your voice, he very nearly drops the cue as he looks startledly looks up. "'Lissa...!" Sean dodges a mis-thrown dart as his walks in from the lift area. Elissa chuckles and rubs her damp hair with a towel, obviously just back from the sauna at the gym. "I didn't know you played pool." Sean enters grumbling and smiling, covered with a bit of scum, and carrying a gym bag. Kevlan shifts slightly from foot to foot, and murmurs somewhat sheepishly, "Ain't done it much in a while.... " Sean shakes his head, smiling. "Nothing personal, but you Singers are slobs." Elissa nods to Sean as she wanders over to the pool table, rubbing the ends of her hair. "Me either, it's been...." she pauses. "I don't know, a long time." Sean laughs a bit. "Those sleds are gross. But I'm trying to do my duty as a good little recruit." Sean looks at the pool table. "What's this for?" Kevlan flicks a sidelong glance at the recruit, and he says gruffly to him, "Ain't been a Singer long enough t' be a slob yet, recruit." His gaze shifts back to Elissa, somewhat nervously, as he adds, "It's f'r pool." Sean looks puzzled. "Pool? There's no water." Elissa rolls her eyes, grinning. "Sean, it's an ancient game from Terra." Kevlan shakes his head as he retrieves some of the balls from the slot in the side. "Not 'a pool'. Jes'... pool." Sean glances between the two singers. "uhm...Am I interrupting something?" Sean nods. "Ok. My planet isn't much for games. 'Cept me." Elissa Originally hailing from Syrine, Elissa has eyes the same soft green shade as that warm planet's waters. Thick waves of dark blonde hair occasionally drift into those eyes, only to be impatiently pushed back. She is slender, and not too tall, perhaps only a few inches over five feet, but she's surprisingly strong and terribly outgoing. Occasionally though, even this gregarious young woman, who seems to be in her early second decade, can get the distant light in her eyes so typical of Crystal Singers. She is dressed in a simple grey workout suit, a pair of snug shorts and a shirt tied up at the midriff to reveal a brilliant green bathing suit underneath. Elissa gives you a grin, her eyes flashing with a mischievious glint. She seems relaxed and in a pleasant mood. Her left arm is enclosed in a cast from her wrist to her shoulder as the elbow bones knit back together. A sling holds the cast close to her body. Kevlan suddenly stiffens, and blurts, looking at the other Singer, "'Lissa...! Wh... what happened?" Kevlan's blue eyes have widened, and he's gone palpably pale. Sean glances at the pair sheepishly. "Uh..I'll be in the gym. Later guys. Three's a crowd right now." Sean leaves the game room. Elissa shakes her head, looking puzzled. "No, not at all...I was just back from working out my good arm and taking a sauna bath." She laughs at Kevlan's startlement. "Oh, you mean my arm? Stupid me, I tripped on a shard at that black claim of mine and Michael's." Kevlan looks you up and down worriedly; he's unconsciously taken a step or two closer, and when he realizes this, he looks down at the floor and blushes. "Oh... Ah... Ah see... " Elissa folds up her towel and places it neatly on a chair as to not to get the chair wet as she sits down. "It's not too bad really...it feels better already." Kevlan stammers, "Ah-Ah-Ah'm glad... you're okay'n' all... " Sean dodges a mis-thrown dart as his walks in from the lift area. Sean enters again. "Blast it, forgot some change of clothing again. What's shaking, guys?" Kevlan's hands - those long lean fingers so at home on gitar strings - clutch the pool cue tightly now, as he leans against the pool table; perhaps for support. He ventures huskily, "So... you an' Michael're... c-cuttin' okay...?" He glances at Sean again, and nods gruffly. [Kevlan loses his connection. :( While he is gone, Adriana enters... ] Sean grins at his classmate, then returns his gaze to the table. "So what *are* you supposed to do with all of this." Adriana says "Yes, for a moment there I thought you had gotten an easy transition." Elissa laughs. "Good gods, y'all haven't been here long enough to get sick yet." Sean laughs. "Heh. My luck, the loudmouthed guy gets rejected, as I said." Sean grins. "I did have a transition of sorts. I had the transition from clean recruit to filthy dirtbag. The sleds are in quite a state." Adriana moves over to Sean and gives him a big bear hug. Sean hugs her back, smiling broadly. Adriana grins evilly. Sean looks at Elissa. "Do they just credit my account, or what?" Kevlan, as others start arriving in the room, seems to unaccountably relax slightly. He quirks a half-grin at Sean's talk of sleds, as he returns his attention to replacing the pool balls on the surface of the table. Sean smiles at Adriana. Elissa stands up, shaking out her towel and placing it in a corner where she can watch Kevlan shoot pool. She plops down and begins slowly stretching out. "Yep Sean, it'll be credited to your account if the chief sled tech thinks you did a good job." [Once more, Kevlan drops carrier. :p When he returns, Sean and Adriana are both gone.] Kevlan murmurs under his breath, "Corbin's a bograt," but his tone is not unkind. He blinkblinks, though, as the recruits vanish, and suddenly blushes again. Elissa hides a grin and goes back to slowly stretching. "Having a little tiff with Corbin, Kev? What is it they call you again?" Kevlan flicks you a horrified glance. "Aw, freg, 'Lissa," he mumbles embarrassedly. "Ain't mah fault... " Kevlan shifts from foot to foot, turning crimson. Elissa looks up from her rather contorted position on the floor, slightly puzzled. "What's wrong? Did they call you something bad? Honestly, Kev, I have no idea, those sled techs never talk loud enough." Kevlan mumbles sheepishly, "G... had." Elissa leans forward, trying to catch the name. "What was it, 'Goahead?'" Kevlan jerks his gaze up at you startledly, and if possible, blushes even more deeply. "No... uh... G... Galahad." Elissa stands up, reaching for her towel and folding it as neatly as possible with one arm in a sling. She seems to be grinning, but doesn't look at you as she asks, "Why, out of all the things to call you, do they call you 'Galahad'?" Her voice is rich with laughter. Kevlan pokes at one of the balls on the table with his cue, sending it skittering across the tabletop. "Ah-Ah... he... uh... came outta this ol' Terran storybook... " Elissa leans one hip against the pool table, grinning. "Ok, tell me the story." Kevlan, blushing, doesn't meet your gaze as he stumbles over his words: "He... he was this knight, see... " Elissa picks at the corner of her towel, obviously amused. "Come on Kevlan, what do they really call you?" At the door of the game room, there comes a burst of masculine laughter. "Ma'am, you ain't gonna get it out of Galahad here," says the voice of a new arrival. Elissa turns and nods, smiling at the sled techs. "Afternoon guys." Kevlan looks up, and looks faintly queasy as he tries to manage a smile at the newcomer: Jerrik the sled tech, and behind him, fairly radiating amusement, Tamber, the Sorter. Tamber sidles easily into the room, and winks at Kevlan, who seems to be trying to invent new shades of red to blush. "Galahad was a Knight of the Round Table, ma'am," he clarifies for Elissa's benefit. Jerrik, the shorter and stockier of the newly arrived pair, leans against the door frame, grinning as he glances from face to face, reading lips. Elissa um-hmms at Tamber, smiling. "I just don't get why you guys call him that." Kevlan grumbles, "Ah don't wanna hear this... " Tamber beams, and claps Kevlan on the shoulder. "Well, ma'am, it's like this... Galahad, the story says, was the most holy of the knights... " Jerrik puts in, "And very courteous to ladies." Kevlan can't seem to decide whether he's going to turn scarlet or green. Elissa laughs and claps her hands, smiling. "I see, it's because he's so sweet to everyone, right?" Tamber drapes a companiable arm about the young Singer, conveniently preventing his escape, and he goes on expansively, "I can't guarantee this, ma'am, but I personally believe Galahad also sang like an angel." Jerrik chuckles, his laugh deep and gruffly pleasant. "That's about the size of it, ma'am." Kevlan fixes his gaze on the ground, muttering, "Ah'm gonna whop you, Tamber... " Elissa grins, watching Kevlan turn strange colors. "Y'all tease him too much, look at him, he's fuscia!" The Sorter grins at his friend, and says mock-threateningly, "You might be a black crystal singer, boy, but >I< get to sell your cuts." Jerrik hehs and adds, "And who do you think keeps _Teesa Narie_ tuned up for you when you're warbling like a bird?" Kevlan shifts restlessly, and shoots a nervous glance at Elissa, perhaps hoping her curiosity has been satisfied, at least. Tamber gives him a friendly punch on his shoulder before swinging into a chair nearby, crossing his legs on a low table in front of him. Elissa sighs and chuckles. "Guys, go easy on him, his head is going to pop with how high his blood pressure is." She swings her towel around her shoulders. "When did you start calling him Galahad?" Jerrik adds to Elissa complacently, "Not that he doesn't keep _Teesa_ in good shape for us, anyhow. Eh? Oh, that got going when he was a recruit, ma'am!" Tamber says smoothly, "It just seems to fit." He waggles his eyebrows. Kevlan endeavors to look as inconspicuous as possible. Tamber's expression settles into a more earnest grin, as he regards Kevlan. "Should have heard him, ma'am, you could hear his voice clear across the hangar in the middle of a mach storm -" Elissa grins and goes over to shove Kevlan with her shoulder in a friendly way. "Come on, tell me how you got the name....there had to have been some horrible thing you did for these bums to tease you with it." She winks at Jerrik and Tamber. Elissa looks surprised. "Why in the world were you singing in a mach storm?" "Certainly the only recruit >I've< ever heard singing when he's cleaning sleds, and I've been here for years!" Tamber adds. Kevlan mumbles sheepishly, "Felt like th' thing t' do at th' time... " Jerrik laughs as he ambles over to pick up one of the other pool cues; with a few deft aims, he sends several of the balls whirling into various pockets. "Those of us who don't have to listen to recruits singing at the tops of their lungs can't comment," he says dryly. Tamber grins. "Well, it _was_ inspirational, Kev." Elissa shakes her head. "Kevlan, you are flat out the most unusual man I've ever met. You sang while you cleaned sleds?" She grins. "I could barely breathe while I did it." Tamber observes cryptically, "Not to mention inspired... " As Kevlan flashes the Sorter a frantic glance, Tamber winks, and goes on simply, "Let's just say the boy has a lot of heart in him, ma'am." Elissa hmms and looks puzzled over Kevlan's frantic expression. Kevlan wilts a little, and takes hasty refuge in the distraction of trying to counter Jerrik's clearly expert shots across the pool table while avoiding Elissa's gaze. On the table's other side, Jerrik's black eyes watch the young Singer knowingly. Elissa nods. "Well, you can stop worrying, Kevlan, I'll stop pestering your friends about your nickname for now." She grins. "Although, curiosity is an asset to a Singer, you know...I won't forget this too quick." Tamber smiles, green eyes twinkling, and he idly ruffles through a deck of cards. "You won't ma'am," he says encouragingly to Elissa, though he promptly shuts up and looks innocent at another glare from Kevlan. Elissa smiles, obviously suspicious that she's not in on the joke. "Ok, now I feel like I'm about to get teased, so if you'll pardon me, I'm going to go change into some decent clothes." She grins, winkning at Kevlan. Kevlan blurts at Elissa, "Ah... Ah'm glad... you're okay, an' ever'thin'... " Behind Kevlan, Jerrik and Tamber exchange wise glances. Elissa rubs her arm gently. "I just hope it heals quick, I like to be out there singing to the stones." She smiles and waves bye to Tamber and Jerrik. Kevlan smiles lopsidedly, his gaze soulful for a moment. Elissa walks out, swinging her towel. Elissa leaves the game room.
