Kirran of the Sun Village is slain by a bear while he and Mender journey towards Lostholt; Mender is wounded, and tended by Leetah and Ember.

Winnowill arrives at Sorrow’s End in the middle of a Festival and demands of Leetah that she finish the job of destroying Blue Mountain — and kill her.
